Data Sources

DVLA Vehicle Database

The government agency responsible for the registration and licensing of vehicles. This is the database of every vehicle in the United Kingdom. We consume our data from one or more licensed DVLA Data partners. This data is kept up to date and directly powers our services.

Written Off Vehicle Database

This data is known in the industry as MIAFTR (Motor Insurance Fraud & Theft Register). This data set makes up an important part of any Vehicle Data and Information Check (VDI Check).
ABI (Association of British Insurers). Condition Data uses information provided by MIAFTR (Motor Industry Anti- Fraud and Theft Register) and specifies if a vehicle has been written off (e.g. there has been a total loss claim) due to damage or theft.

Car write off check categories

  • Category A - Vehicle has not been repaired following extreme damage. It was deemed too damaged to be repairable with little or no salvageable parts.
  • Category B - Vehicle has not been repaired following significant damage. It was deemed too damaged to be repairable however did have salvageable parts.
  • Category C - Vehicle was repairable, but the repair costs exceeded the vehicle value. The insurer chose not to repair for economic reasons.
  • Category D - Vehicle was repairable, but the repair costs were significant compared to the vehicle value. The insurer chose not to repair for economic reasons.
  • Category F - Vehicle damaged by fire and a claim was made
  • Theft - Vehicle was recorded with a theft marker on the date provided. It does not necessarily indicate that the vehicle remains stolen.
  • Damaged - This vehicle was recorded as damaged, uncategorised. (Usually associated to older vehicles where no category has been indicated on the vehicle at the time of registering the marker against the vehicle.

Outstanding Finance Data

Outstanding finance data is a database that helps to highlight if a vehicle has a current outstanding finance agreement against it. If a vehicle has an outstanding finance agreement registered against it, such as a 'Hire Purchase Agreement', you will need to settle the outstanding finance before purchasing the vehicle. Details of any finance agreements recorded against the vehicle at the time of the check

MOT History

This data set comes directly from VOSA and outlines the previous MOT's a vehicle has had. The data set also includes mileage history and this is included as part of any MOT or Mileage check. The data is updated on a nightly basis and Text-Check.co.uk is served this MOT history data

Police National Computer - Stolen Vehicle Data

Provides details of stolen vehicles recorded on the Police National Computer. This database is updated daily. The Police database holds information about stolen vehicles. This data is updated overnight and we receive this data through a licensed provider.

Mileage Data

Vehicle mileage information from various sources recorded against the vehicle. Mileage sources include:

  • DVLA - Driver & Vehicle Licensing Agency
  • Manufacturer - The Vehicle manufacturer
  • N.A.M.A - National Association of Motor Auctions
  • R.M.I.F - Retail Motor Industry Federation
  • B.V.R.L.A (Member & Associate) - British Vehicle Rental and Leasing Association
  • V.M.C Dealer- Experian Vehicle Mileage
  • V.M.C Keeper - Experian Vehicle Mileage

  • MOT - VOSA MOT Data
  • Servicing - Independent servicing data

All the above data sources are “powered” by Experian Ltd except for MOT, Tax and Performance data where this is sourced separately by UK Vehicle Data Ltd.
